Product description

The Roselli Carving knife, long blade is designed for wood carving where precision, reach and control matter. Its long, narrow 85 mm carbon steel blade makes it easy to guide the knife through wood and gives you greater reach for longer, smooth cuts as well as detailed shaping.

The blade features Roselli’s Scandi Grind Zero with a 14-degree bevel on each side, creating a 28-degree total edge angle. The geometry gives the knife a sharp, controlled cutting edge that bites cleanly into wood and makes it easier to follow the grain and control the depth of each cut.

With a hardness of around 60 HRC, the carbon steel offers a practical balance of sharpness, edge retention, durability and ease of sharpening.

The handle is made from stained curly birch and treated with linseed oil. Its natural shape provides a comfortable and secure grip, helping maintain control during both fine detail work and longer carving sessions.

Each knife is handmade in Harmoinen, Finland, and comes with a handcrafted sheath made from dark, vegetable-tanned Finnish leather.

A purpose-built carving knife for anyone who values a sharp edge, precise control and the natural feel of working wood by hand.

Reviews

FAQs

What is the Carving knife, long blade best used for?

It is designed specifically for wood carving and detailed woodworking, including controlled shaping, longer slicing cuts and precision work where good blade control is important.

What is the advantage of the longer carving blade?

The 85 mm blade provides more reach than a shorter carving knife, making it particularly useful for longer, smooth cuts and removing material while still maintaining good control for detailed work.

What is Scandi Grind Zero?

Scandi Grind Zero means the primary bevel continues directly to the cutting edge without a separate secondary bevel. On this knife, the bevel is 14 degrees per side, 28 degrees in total, creating a sharp and highly controllable edge particularly well suited to carving wood.

What type of steel is used for the blade?

The blade is made from carbon steel (1075-class) with a hardness of around 60 HRC. It provides a good balance of sharpness, edge retention, durability and ease of sharpening for regular carving.

What is the difference between a carving knife and a general outdoor knife?

A carving knife is designed specifically for controlled cutting and shaping of wood. Its narrow blade and edge geometry prioritize precision and control, while a general outdoor knife is typically designed for a broader range of tasks.
